A Good Day

Today was 2/28 — a Taiwanese holiday. It’s a one-day break right smack in the middle of a work week that you choose instead to stay behind in Taipei than to fly off somewhere else to spend your annual leaves which are better spent on a longer trip.

It’s also a day of freedom — to do anything you darn well please, with anyone you want to.

So how did I spend 2/28?

Well, I didn’t choose to go to Carnegies this evening despite the Oriented and V-Day event going on…

Nor did I run over to the Brass Monkey to meet up with some old friends visiting. Brass Monkey had free booze (Ladies Night baby) and am sure it would’ve been fun, but I just wasn’t feeling it…

Nor did I invite this guy out for dinner, despite knowing that he’ll say yes. Heck, I already went out with him Tuesday so I wouldn’t want anybody to hog my time. Or then again, maybe I’m not that interested.

So what did I do instead?

Well, I woke up quite early. Around 10-ish instead of being at work by 9am…

Dropped by the Taiwanese breakfast place that served the best dan bin (Taiwanese egg omelette) that I’ve ever had during my 5-year stay here…

Ran off to the neighborhood Starbucks to grab a tall cup of vanilla latte (low-fat, of course), then proceeded to study for 4 hours…

Met up with my cute climbing buddy and then went off to Yongkang Street for some beef noodles (we heard it was famous) and met more cool peeps on the way there…

Had some desserts…

And then walked to the climbing gym where Top Climber who’s back from his long vacation joined us…

Climbed for almost 4 freaking hours and had a BLAST!

And then took an MRT and walked home…

So overall, it was a good day.

Sure, I didn’t spend tons of cash, go out on a date, socialized at Carnegies or danced the night away. But I did spend the day doing what I liked with people that I liked even more, and it was just PERFECT.

And no, I didn’t even worry about not being able to meet the One just because I missed my chance partying and meeting new people.

Because when all the people you want to be with already are around you, what more can you ask for? 🙂

So how did you spend your 2/28?
