Highly Recommended: A Cai Milkfish Belly in Ximending

We arrived quite late via Airasia so after checking in at our hotel in Ximending, we naturally scourged for food. Fortunately, A Cai Milkfish Belly (阿財虱目魚肚) is still open from 10:00pm to 4:30am, so it was our perfect first stop destination for our Easter weekend holiday.

Here’s the kid at the airport. “Welcome to Taipei!”

Always the charmer!

Ximending is quiet when we arrived. It’s so peaceful and clean:

A brief 3 minute walk will take you to A Cai Milkfish Belly (阿財虱目魚肚). We Google mapped it. When we arrived at 3:15am, there was a line!

Lines outside the restaurant hints that the food is good!

We had to wait a few minutes to be seated. The servers are very friendly but speaks no English.

The menu board is in Chinese, but as you can see, the prices are reasonable.

The menu is in Chinese. Boo hoo!

For easier reference, here’s our order and some of the prices. We added a few things but more or less, we got this.

We added the lamb satay at NTD 220

The first to arrive was the braised milkfish belly (NTD 300). It was soft, tender with a little spicy kick. Everyone loved this dish and it was devoured in seconds. Thankfully, there was not a lot of bones:

The next was the egg with scallions. Lightly seasoned but reasonably priced at NTD 50:

The Braised Pork Rice (Lu Rou Fan) is soft and tender at NTD 30. We shared this dish but the serving is good for one person only.

It’s smaller in actual, but share to taste.

The braised intestine was different but I loved it. At NTD 70, this is a must order.

People also loved the salt and pepper oyster. At NTD 200, another must order for the group:

Aeva really loved the Vitali Cream Soda while the adults drank Taiwan Beer:

My personal favorite was the Three Cup Oyster (NTD 300). Personally, this was my favorite dish. The smell was enticing and wafted throughout the room. The oysters were big and tender with generous servings of flavorful onions.

3 Cup Oyster is the best dish for the night

A perfect complement to the shrimp fried rice (NTD 110):

Meanwhile, our Australian brother-in-law’s favorite was the satay lamb (NTD 220) with generous servings of vegetables. Trust us, it looks as good as it looks:

Another must order: The satay lamb

The final dish of the night was this beautiful seafood soup. At NTD 100, it’s not expensive, but it’s the perfect ending to a late night snack:

With squid, oysters, shrimp

We highly recommend anyone who’s looking for an early morning snack to visit A Cai Milkfish Belly (阿財虱目魚肚). It’s right by Ximending District and opens from 10am to 4:30pm, and offers great dishes at a reasonable price.

We are so happy and satiated with our choice of food. Will visit again and highly recommended!
