Being a Christian, I initially didn’t believe in the zodiac. The church would lambast the zodiac as an act of the devil. Only God is to be believed. Once you start reading the horoscope, you will allow the “fates” to determine your life, instead of trusting God to set the path for you.
So every time I’d read the morning papers, I’d put my hand over the horoscope section and not read it.
However, when I got to Taiwan, I noticed that people here were very conscious about other people’s zodiac. Upon introducing oneself, aside from the questions of where you are from, where do you live, what do you do, many people would ask you for your zodiac sign.
At first, I would merely humor them and say, “I’m a Libran.”
To this, they would nod their head and indicate that their sign goes very well (or not very compatible) with Librans. Then, they would analyze on what type of person I am based on my sign.
“Librans are fair and just. They can see both sides of the coin. They are peace-loving creatures. They love beauty,” they would say. “But they’re also very indecisive. It would take them a long time to make a decision.”
Or something to that effect.
But after a while, I started noticing a pattern. Although it doesn’t tell the whole picture, people that I know do actually share a lot of traits that their sign embodies.
For example, Leos that I know of are usually proud, strong-willed people who like to be the center of attention (whether they’d admit it or not). My good friend Karen is a Virgo, and Virgos are practical folks who can make quick decisions. That’s Karen, a person who’s my yang and gives me the more realistic perspective to any situation.
My Sagittarian friends (my ex included) love freedom and adventure. They can’t be tied down and hate people who put them in a schedule. I guess, that’s why we broke up, because he’s quite the commitment phobic. I was always the more emotionally secure one. Scorpions are passionate, but beware of them when they’re angry. They’re quite hot-tempered and can hold grudges. They’ll take revenge if they can. Taurans are very stable and very reliable people, like my boss. They are good at what they do, and work hard at it.
My friend Jose, is a fellow Libran. Like me, he thinks and analyzes too much, and takes forever to decide. But we both appreciate beauty. We must love peace because Jose is a diplomat, while I’m usually the peace-maker in groups.
And so on and so forth.
With such coincidences, how could you not believe in it?
Being aware of the horoscope may be the act of the devil, but I think theology has also taught us to question often, and not accept catechism without reason. Based on my still limited experience, I think there’s a basis on the zodiac — that even though they are not 100% accurate, they give you a good idea on how to deal with people given their zodiac signs.
So I find myself reading the horoscopes quite regularly. And I don’t think there’s anything bad about it.
I found out that the sign “Libra” describes me very well. It’s so… me.
The only thing I disagreed with is the statement, “They like the opposite sex to the extent of promiscuity sometimes…”
I’m not promiscuous!
I may like the opposite sex, and I would appreciate beauty/attractiveness when I see one, but I am always loyal to my man to the extent that my ex would never even bat an eye every time I go clubbing with my girlfriends. He was never insecure about that. He knew he can trust me 101%. Trust was never an issue with us, because he knew he can trust me. I’ve always been a one-man woman, and I don’t think I have what it takes to play for fun. But hey, as I’ve said before, never say never.
Anyway, for fun, you can also check out your own sign using this link:
Send me a comment on whether or not your sign accurately describes you. Would love to hear what you think about this! As I’ve said, it’s ultimately up to you whether you believe in it or not, but for me, I found mine (especially the data found in that specific website) to be unbelievably accurate.
