Are Crushes Dangerous?

I’m thinking about writing a post on crushes.

But posts like these often times get me to trouble.

Different from when we were younger, crushes are no longer as harmless as they seem.

Especially if you’re already in a committed relationship, crushes can be quite dangerous. “Nothing good comes out from this,” stated Trader after I’ve asked him about it.

However, what happened to the adage, “You can look, but you cannot touch.”

If you are not really acting on your crushes, does that make it cheating?

My friend introduced to me this idea late last evening last week. Even though she’s in a three year contented relationship, she cannot help but have a crush on her colleague whom she sees everyday.

Bonita, I cannot help it. It’s a physical reaction,” she told me. “My heart races, my eyes twinkle and I just cannot help but look forward to getting to work the next day.”

“What about your boyfriend?” I asked. “Does he know?”

“No, he’s too dense to know,” she replied. “And besides, am not really acting on it. It’s just a crush.”

Is it really that harmless though? If a crush is merely just a crush, then it shouldn’t be too dangerous right?

The thought brings me back to the movie Inception where the protagonist introduces a single thought in his wife’s head. Crushes are like that I think.

They start off with an idea. Which we dwell upon. And soon enough, ideas grow and pollute our minds.

Which is why even though I think quite a few of my classmates are interesting and attractive, I do not dwell too much on them. Haha, do you know how much effort it takes not to be tempted and to keep oneself behaved?

Tough, especially since I am still technically single and unmarried! 🙂

Regardless, I’m not the type of person who would grow a crush despite how cute my classmates can be,

As they say, one follows the golden rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

And to Trader’s defense, how would I feel if he does have crushes as well from his side?

Of course, I’d be terribly hurt right?

So there – that’s my thoughts on crushes.

If you have them, then fine. So long as the other person doesn’t hear of them.

If you can control yourself and not have them, then all the better.

Know that despite thinking that the grass is greener on the other side, it often really isn’t. Instead, it’s just the same grass.

And that’s from my experience.

So be careful when you switch. Sometimes, it’s not really a better option for us. Just another option to jump into.

Have a great week everyone!

About Tina

I'm a forgetful person. But I think a lot. Every day, a lot of thoughts enter my head. That's why this blog came to be: first, to keep my memories alive through the years, and two, to actually see how I and my thoughts have changed. Please note that I seldom draft or edit my posts. Sometimes, if I'm not careful, I offend some of you, my readers. And while I apologize for making you feel uncomfortable, I am not sorry for being honest or for making well-intentioned mistakes. I will however be the first to admit if I change my mind. Hence, do read and proceed with caution. My life is as colorful and as boring as you make it. I complain many days, but offer some encouragement in others. Life is fluid, it changes. So keep the positives and throw away the negatives, and I do hope that at the end of the day, you will enjoy reading the blog and leaving comments here and there if my posts touches you. Happy reading!
