My New Life

Work long hours. Feeling the pressure. Stop to eat.

Only food place near the office is Cafe de Coral, a ubiquitous Chinese medium-tiered Hong Kong fast food chain, and expensive deli sandwiches which are delivered to your floor. Rice bowls cost around freaking HKD 60, while meager sandwiches cost almost like an entire meal in Taiwan.

*(DJSODASY*U@#*(@#*

To save on cash, I eat some bread which I purchase for HKD10 in Causeway Bay. Not the healthiest fare around, but with food here costing at least HKD30 to HKD50 a set (that’s around NTD120 to 150 minimum), surely, I will have my own subprime crisis soon. 🙁

Maybe it’s just me but my stingy tendencies had come back with a vengeance. Funny, in Taipei, I have no qualms squandering around NTD300 to 500 for a lovely meal, but heck, here in Hong Kong, I just don’t think that the meals are worth that much! For a good decent meal for example, a serving would bring you back around NTD800 and that’s without anything! Are there any cheap places to eat around here?

To top it off, I practically have no friends here, save for my colleagues!

In their defense, they’re extremely nice and had done their best to ensure I feel the welcome during the first day. But I do miss the connections I’ve made back home in Taipei. You know, when your friends’ cell are on your speed dial and when you feel lonely, all you need to do is call, and you wouldn’t be charged with roaming (as I do not have my Hong Kong cell yet).

Of course, it also sucks that Boyfriend (or soon to be ex) is in absentia. While some girls would cry and call and ask what the heck is going on, prideful Bonita is just letting the relationhip die. Day comes when I slowly yet surely start to go into Single-mode again. Honestly, I don’t have the heart to call it off, nor do I want to let it live.

If it lives, great. If it dies, oh well. Not meant to be.

Let me know if you agree with my way of not realling getting any closure (as there’s really no need as actions speak louder than words) and just moving on with my life.

Anyway, just got back from work — over the weekend. Aaaargh, first weekend in Hong Kong is spent on work!

But then again, a girl’s gotta do what she’s gotta do! Okay, gotta shower and sleep. Waking up at freaking 6:15 am tomorrow. Hope I do get to wake up!

Take care and have a great week ahead!

  1. if you had more personal time, maybe you’d spend it building a new social network in hk.

but seeing as how work is taking up most of your time, at least it’s keeping you busy so that you’re not over-thinking about other parts of your life.

    stay strong! all the best.

  2. Ah! I’m glad to hear you arrived safely. I took some random guesses as to where you were going and — well, this was a surprise! Hope it proved a pleasant one. I’d probably feel depressed in the first days after the move, even if I am enjoying it overall.

What is so bad about calling him? There’s nothing crying or bad or needy about it…

(If you were going to call him several times in a row and send messages about why he’s silent then obviously it would be needy, but I have the sense that you’re talking about just one call.)

    Best wishes!
